When the Curtain Fell, the Conversation Had Only Just Begun

Some evenings entertain, while others leave a mark long after the lights go out.

Chibombo Theatre Evening was one of those rare occasions. As Shedding Light unfolded, the room was captivated; not simply by the brilliance of the performance, but by the humanity woven into every word, every silence and every emotion. It wasn't just theatre; it was an invitation to reflect on resilience, injustice and the extraordinary strength of women whose stories deserve to be heard. Susie's words didn't only push your eyes to tears, but warmed your heart as well.

Yet perhaps the most powerful moment came after the applause, as the evening reminded us that while apartheid belongs to history, many women today continue to face battles of a different kind. Through the work of Chibombo People's Climate Action, we were introduced to women in rural Zambia who stand on the frontline of climate change, women who continue to lead, rebuild and inspire despite overwhelming challenges.

It was impossible to leave unchanged.

What made the evening truly remarkable was the way it united art with purpose. Theatre became more than entertainment; it became a bridge connecting people, stories and communities separated by thousands of miles but united by a shared belief in dignity, equality and hope.

To everyone who performed, organised, volunteered, donated and attended, we thank you for creating an evening that reminded us of the power of storytelling and the even greater power of coming together.

Some performances end with a standing ovation, but the best ones begin a conversation that continues long after the curtain falls.
