About the Chibombo project

Chibombo People's Climate Action (CPCA) is a dynamic grassroots organisation in an area of rural Zambia most directly hit by climate change. It is working hard to reforest and mobilise at least 51% of the community to be climate smart with the support of a friends group in the UK.

CPCA was started by Mercy Changu Ngandu, known as Changu. Changu is visionary and seriously concerned about climate change, especially deforestation in the Chibombo area of rural Zambia. She started growing trees with children in the school where she was a science teacher and local women.  This has now developed into a farm supporting local ecology and fostering women's economic and social independence.
