In this blog you will be delighted to find out about how the project is going from strength to strength and our fundraising drive including our annual Friends event on 4th July.
We worked hard to pay for and commission the borehole last year; now CPCA are not leaving a stone unturned to translate the increased water into food and trees.
In her latest monthly report, Changu started off by saying:
‘At CPCA Chibombo, we're doing well and getting better at what we do.’
Abundant food production, income generation and skill sharing
Their production has steadily increased, They have raised an incredible £1500 from vegetable sales! As a result fewer people are going hungry!
From their income they were able to purchase 15,000 tomato plants, 6 drip tapes and a poly pipe.
From this month they will pay 3 of the recently trained young people a small allowance of £30 per month for their upkeep because of their commitment to the project - this will also be funded through vegetable sales.
They are starting a programme of training for passiona on sustainable organic agriculture which will take place fortnightly. (Passionates are the link people between households and the project. Each household in the area is encouraged to identify a householder to be a passionate who will link with the project for education and resources eg seeds, saplings. They then share what they have gained within their household)
Tree planting
They planted 960 saplings in 17 schools!
They also are developing two new woods in areas with different headmen and are
collecting lemon, guava and mango seeds as well as indigenous fruit seeds as they get more into fruit tree planting.
YOUR contribution goes further
CPCA continues to need our support - we contribute to core funding, inputs they can't afford at present including seeds, fencing, education and training. Their increasing self reliance means YOUR contribution goes further enabling more people to be involved, improving their lives and reforesting the area.!!!
