Chibombo district, Zambia was once an agricultural hub; this year it is one of the districts that was most badly hit by floods which devastated Zambia. Chibombo was also directly hit by Covid 19 and Zambia’s collapsing economy.
Despite this, Chibombo People’s Climate Action have planted many thousands of tree saplings and ensured the women in their climate action movement have been able to grow food.
CHIBOMBO WOMEN’S CLIMATE ACTION MOVEMENT involves some of the women most vulnerable and stressed by the impact of climate change. Growing food for consumption and income provides them with an alternative to earning a living through charcoal burning
Since 2019, they have been cultivating on rented land. Recently, with help from Whalley Range Climate Action Group they acquired their own land.
They now need £850 for an irrigation system including a solar water pump, inputs to grow tomatoes and for 4 beehives
Over the last two years, Chibombo People’s Climate Action, Zambia has developed a great track record for gathering seeds, growing saplings and planting tens of thousands of trees in the Chibombo District.
With our help, they now want to step up and have 200,000 tree saplings ready for transplanting by November, 2021. By 2025 they aim to plant 1,000,000 trees and contribute to rolling back global warming by reforesting.
They need £250 to pay for wire, netting and polyplasics to build a shelter for the saplings
