Fun in Stockport; loan scheme launched in Zambia.

The sun shone despite rain scares. The garden looked stunning, the tea was delicious, the sound of background harp music a delight and the generosity was amazing - of people who attended, ordered take aways and other supporters ! We made an unbelievable £1425 and we are still hoping for a couple of promised donations.

As a result, 10 members of Chibombo People Climate Action (CPCA) working in 3 groups have already done their training and are now receiving their loans to get their businesses off the ground. Once they pay back their loans, more members will be able to take advantage of the scheme and if it proves successful it will eventually be rolled out to passionates. The passionates are the lead people in each household in the area, working with CPCA

The primary purpose of the scheme from our perspective is member retention and contribution. CPCA have identified that members need a more secure income to enable them to have time to do what is needed; and the loan scheme is being introduced to see if this is a way of supporting the members to this end. We hope it will!

We are delighted that 72% of our target income of £8000 is now raised or committed. We need to raise a further £2200 this year. If you can organise a fundraiser, however big or small, you may also help extend our network of supporters. Our urgent need is to get more standing orders for 12 months to cover running costs; so far we have enough committed to cover 18.5 days of every month. Can you contribute to funding the remaining 11.5 days of each month?

This type of funding can be less popular with donors, it is nevertheless vital. Changu, would be forced to leave the area and the project would disappear if we cannot provide for her basic needs while she is getting the project on a more secure footing.
