The cream tea was perfect, the garden gorgeous, the weather held, the atmosphere was fabulous and everyone had a brilliant time. And so far we have raised over £1600 and the money is still coming in!
The generosity of everyone has been simply unbelievable. This includes the 27 people who came, the 7 who had take aways, the many others who donated including Whalley Range Climate Action Group and most of all our hosts, cook and gardener - Mary and Mel who welcomed us all with their warm hearts and delicious food prepared with such love and attention to detail. Thankyou so much everyone. Changu, Mary and I are totally overwhelmend and humbled (and encouraged to do more!)
The raffle raised £55 and the winners were Jane Sweet, Jack Miller and Doug Russell
Chibombo Peoples Climate Action (CPCA) have already bought seeds and other inputs with money we sent which had been donated before Sunday.
This week they will buy the resources they need for the irrigation system, tree sapling shelter and beehives. They have assured us they will not travel as Covid levels are scarily high and only 0.4% of Zambians have been vaccinated - they will get everything delivered by bus. Watch out for photos as these are all put in place.
We are now well over the £1100 target and this will be a brilliant start on our next fundraising project - a not for profit farm which will provide work and training for the 40 women now involved. They are determined to do everything they can to reforest their area and ensure a sustainable future. Mary and I now want to start a Friends of Chibombo People's Climate Action and hope you will join! CPCA is and endeavours to be a model project showing what ordinary people can do - their gift to us is HOPE.
